In this Urban Fantasy Land exclusive, we’re bringing you the holiday traditions of some of your favourite urban fantasy authors! Today’s guest: Jeaniene Frost, author of the Night Huntress series.
What winter holiday do you celebrate?
I celebrate Christmas. If you’ve ever seen the movies National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or The Ref, you’ll have an idea of what Christmas with my family is like ;-). Seriously, I love the holidays, but I admit to envying everyone who has a white Christmas. I live in Florida, so that’s impossible.
What are your favorite winter holiday traditions?
I love putting up my tree and decorating it. Normally I get a real tree, but this year, I bought a fake one. It’s black with silver frosting. Very Goth, very pretty, and I’m having a blast picking out creepy-gorgeous ornaments for it. It won’t replace real trees for me, but every once it a while, it will be fun to have this tree.
What are you looking forward to most?
The politically correct response would be to say giving gifts to others. The real truth? The food! Christmas is second only to Thanksgiving for guilt-free grazing, and it’s also the time of year where I can drink eggnog. I have a sick love of eggnog. It’s probably the most horrifyingly-fattening drink in the world, and what do I do over Christmas? Gulp it down with whip cream!
What’s your favorite gift to give?
Anything that doesn’t take me forever to find at the mall.
What’s your favorite gift to receive?
This is easy – book store gift certificates. I love them.
What’s your favorite holiday food/candy/treat?
Think I answered this with question #3: eggnog.
Holiday message for readers of UFL:
Hope you have a wonderful, safe holiday! And if you live in one of those snowy states, do throw a snowball or make a snow angel for me :).
