Jackie Kessler’s ISBN Mix-up [updated]

In a comment to our August Releases post, author Jackie Kessler gives us the scoop:

HOTTER THAN HELL will be available as of August 5, 2008. However, it looks like Barnes and Noble will not have the book until the end of August. Borders will have it on schedule. If people are ordering online via Amazon, they should order ISBN-10: 0-8217-8104-9 or ISBN-13: 978-0-8217-8104-3. Thanks! –Jackie Kessler

Further investigation reveals Amazon lists these product details:

  • Paperback: 304 pages
  • Publisher: Kensington (July 29, 2008)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0821781049
  • ISBN-13: 978-0821781043

**A release date of 29 July.**

However, according to Ms Kessler’s post over at Fangs, Fur & Fey, the book may not reach some folks until the end of August:

What does this mean? The primary ISBN version will hit stores in the next week — the official launch date is August 5, but Amazon and B&N.com will start filling pre-orders tomorrow, and one person emailed me to say she already bought her copy at her local Borders. However, the secondary ISBN version won’t be available until the end of August. (Maybe.)

Also, the book did not turn up in search results when searched for by title at Amazon. It was only by punching in the ISBN that I was able to find it. Here’s the link to the book at Amazon.

Here’s what Barnes & Noble have listed:

  • ISBN: 0821781049
  • ISBN-13: 9780821781043
  • Format: Paperback, 336pp
  • Publisher: Kensington Publishing Corporation
  • Pub. Date: August 2008

The book turns up in search results by title, and here’s the link to the book at Barnes & Noble.

With all the mix-up and the loss of pre-order data, I’m hoping this snafu won’t affect Ms Kessler’s present or future contracts. The situation must be very confusing for everyone involved.

If you haven’t ordered the book yet, you should be able to now, though shipping dates may vary between suppliers. Check your local brick & mortar and let us know where you’ve spotted Hotter Than Hell.
