Catching up on Twilight (movie)

While currently dominating the bestsellers lists, Stephenie Meyer is also quietly living an author’s dream: seeing her books made into movies. Twilight is up first. The film has been shot and is now in post-production with an expected theatre-debut date of 12 December 2008. If all goes well, the other books will follow. Here are a few details from IMDB, in case you haven’t been rabidly scanning the internet for tidbits:

Director: Catherine Hardwicke (no stranger to teen films, having directed Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown)
Writers: Stephenie Meyer (novel), Melissa Rosenburg (screenplay) (among her credits, Melissa has served as writer & producer for The O.C. and for Party of Five.)
Tagline: When you can live forever what do you live for?
Plot: A teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire.
Isabella Swan: Kristin Stewart (previously seen in Catch That Kid and Panic Room)
Edward Cullen: Robert Pattison (aka Cedric Diggory)

If you’re in the US, you can head on over to to catch the trailer and video clips of Twilight. MTV says they can’t share the clips with those of us outside the US. However, handy-dandy YouTube also has trailers:
