Free Reading Friday

Last week we pointed you to John Scalzi’s SF short story ‘How I Proposed to my Wife: An Alien Sex Story’, which was offered up as shareware. Scalzi reports on how it’s going.

Jeaniene Frost gives us the whole first chapter of One Foot in the Grave. (The book will be officially released in stores April 29!) Meanwhile, Katie(Babs) interviews Ms Frost and is giving away one copy of Ms Frost’s first two books to one lucky reader. Hurry over to find out how you can enter the contest.

Melissa Marr is giving us a taste of Ink. The prologue and first chapter of Ink Exchange are available for free reading. (The book will be officially released in stores April 29! Not long now!)

Small Beer Press has made Maureen F. McHugh’s short story collection Mothers & Other Monsters available as a free download via a Creative Commons License.

  1. Well, if Scalzi managed to make what a pro magazine is paying, then that might mean his blog could be a viable reprint market for himself. Even if he couldn’t consistently reproduce those results, he could release short stories as a loss leader in order to drum up interest in his longer stuff.
