SciFi.com talks to Carrie Vaughn

vaughn2.jpg Excerpt from the article:

A lot of what Vaughn has done in her Kitty stories is a reaction to stereotypes of the genre, and how angry they make her. “I’m not at all fond of the leather-clad, gun-toting brand of kick-ass heroine, so I specifically made Kitty someone who doesn’t use weapons, who avoids violence and isn’t particularly aggressive,” Vaughn said. “She has to really work to stand up for herself sometimes. A lot of the stories come out of my own observations and reactions, and from really wanting to do something different with these tropes. Sending characters to jail, for instance, because that’s what happens in the real world.”
